Pagosa Non-Profit Organizations

Pagosa Springs has numerous non-profit organizations dedicated to community service. Pagosa Rocks© is proud to tell you about two of them.

One of the most active is the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs. Who can't resist helping cuddly critters? These folks help care for abandoned dogs and cats in the area by providing an animal shelter as well as a Thrift Shop to raise funds and community awareness.

The Humane Society Thrift Store offers top quality new and used merchandise. Donations of saleable merchandise are always needed and appreciated. They accept donations of working appliances less than ten years old. Tax receipts are provided on request.

Each year, the Humane Society conducts auctions, fund raisers and "adopt-a-thons" in support of the critters. If you're interested in adding a companion to your home, these are the people to see. Stop by and take a critter for a walk. The dogs will love it because of the attention and exercise they get, and you'll feel good about yourself.

Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical Christian non-profit organization created to provide access to decent, affordable housing for working families of modest means. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 200,000 houses. It is the fifth largest builder of houses in the United States.

Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County was established with the same goals, but focused on building houses in Archuleta County. They build 1-2 houses in Pagosa Springs, Colorado each year, using primarily volunteer labor. The actual cost of these houses is about $65,000, all of which must be repaid by the Partner Family which must also contribute 400-500 hours of sweat equity. Their efforts in Pagosa Springs over the past 15 years have provided quality housing for over 50 children.
