Let YOUR adventures begin!
Pagosa Springs, a rapidly growing community of about 11,000 individuals, offers you an incredible variety of outdoor adventures, whether your choice is to race down mountains at high velocity (at any time of the year), float down majestic rivers, wander through the wilderness, or just sit on the banks of a crystal pure mountain lake and drown worms.....and maybe catch a record setting fish while you're at it!
Rich in history and geological beauty, Pagosa Springs is located in a wide valley and blessed with beauty beyond imagination. Surrounded by the rugged San Juan Mountains, Pagosa is located near the headwaters of the San Juan River, which flows through town. Another vibrant geological feature is the Pagosa Hot Springs in the central part of "Old Pagosa", the core business district.
Taking great pleasure in cultural activities, Pagosa hosts several music festivals each year, including Music in the Mountains with renowned classical musicians from around the world, as well as the annual Four Corners Folk Festival, featuring nationally known musicians.
Among the aesthetic and exciting delights held each year is the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival during Winter Carnival, and the Colorfest Balloon Rally in late September.
Located north of town is the half million acre Weminuche Wilderness area (the largest in the State of Colorado), left untouched by man and barred from being developed in the future. High mountain peaks (many over 14,000 feet), foaming waterfalls, rushing rivers, shining lakes fed by high mountain snowfall and unbounded adventure await your exploration.
Another great thing about Pagosa Springs is that you can drive to so many fantastic places nearby in just a few hours time. Durango, Creede, South Fork, Ouray, Telluride - all within about one to three hours away. To the south is Santa Fe, Taos, Angel Fire, and Albuquerque, if your taste for adventure runs to the "Land of Enchantment" - New Mexico.
